NRB statement inzake toestand Oekraïne

De Nederlandse Raft Bond is geschokt en bedroefd door de Russische inval in Oekraïne en spreekt haar steun uit aan Oekraïne, de Oekraïense burgers en atleten en de Oekraïense Rafting Federatie (URF) in het bijzonder.

Net als het Nederlandse Olympisch Comité NOC*NSF zijn wij van mening dat sport en politiek gescheiden zouden moeten zijn. Sporters zouden ongeacht hun nationaliteit of politieke voorkeur niet buitengesloten moeten worden. Maar de huidige situatie is groter dan sport en de gehele samenleving moet in actie komen om dit onrecht tegen te gaan. Oekraïne en zijn inwoners verdienen alle steun, ook van de sportwereld.

De Nederlandse Raft Bond staat volledig achter het standpunt van het Nederlandse Olympisch Comité NOC*NSF en het Nederlandse Watersportverbond en volgt de lijn die is ingezet in de mondiale sportwereld, aangevoerd door het Internationale Olympisch Comité (IOC) en gesteund door vele internationale sportbonden.
Wij steunen de oproep die het IOC heeft gedaan om Russische en Belarussische sporters en officials tot nader order te bannen van internationale sportevenementen en geen evenementen meer in deze landen te organiseren.
Helaas heeft onze overkoepelende organisatie, de IRF, een ander standpunt in deze kwestie; zij staat Russische en Belarussische atleten wel toe om onder neutrale vlag deel te nemen aan IRF-wedstrijden.
Daarom heeft het bestuur van de Nederlandse Raft Bond unaniem besloten om, tot nader order, geen Nederlandse teams uit te zenden naar IRF Level A (World) en B (Continental) wedstrijden, en alle andere evenementen waaraan Russische en Belarussische atleten deelnemen, ook niet als deze strijden onder neutrale vlag.

Wij leven mee met iedereen die door de situatie wordt geraakt. 
Onze gedachten gaan ook nadrukkelijk uit naar de Russische en Belarussische sporters en officials die zich openlijk uitspreken tegen deze oorlog en die nu de dupe zijn van deze uitsluitingen.

NRB statement on Ukraine

The Dutch Rafting Federation is shocked and saddened by the Russian invasion into Ukraine and expresses its support to Ukraine, the Ukrainian citizens and athletes and the Ukrainian Rafting Federation (URF) in particular.

Like the Dutch Olympic Committee NOC*NSF, we believe that sports should be kept separate from politics. Athletes, regardless of nationality or political affiliation, should not be excluded. But the current situation is bigger than sport, and the whole society must take action to counter this injustice. Ukraine and its citizens deserve all the support, including from the sports world.

The Dutch Rafting Federation fully supports the position of the Dutch Olympic Committee NOC*NSF and the Dutch Water Sports Association (Watersportverbond) and follows the line adopted in the global sports world, led by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and supported by many international sports associations.
We support the IOC’s appeal to all international sports organizations to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from international sporting events until further notice and to not organize any more events in these countries.
The Dutch Rafting Federation is sorry to read that the IRF does not have the same point of view as the majority of international sporting federations (including the IOC) to fully exclude Russian and Belarussian athletes from IRF competitions.
This means that the Dutch Rafting Federation, until further notice, will redraw from IRF Level A (World) and B (Continental) events and all other events with Russian and Belarussian athletes, even if they compete under the neutral IRF’s flag.

We sincerely hope the IRF reviews its standpoint, because taking this semi-impartial stand can seriously threaten the continuance of IRF competitions. This has already proven to be the case for various events and organizations in other sports.

We sympathize with everyone affected by the situation.
Our thoughts are also with the Russian and Belarussian athletes and officials who openly speak out against this war and who are the victims of these exclusions.
